In the more than 60 years since its founding, the James E. Moore Insurance Agency has built a reputation for honesty, responsibility and integrity. Those qualities are well-deserved, but they weren’t enough to ensure that the business could compete against large providers that spend billions each year on advertising.
About the James E Moore Insurance Agency, Inc.:
The James E. Moore Insurance Agency was established in 1954 and has become one of the most trusted independent insurance agencies in North Carolina. Since its founding, the business has grown from two employees to its current team of 21.
The agency is family-owned and offers homeowners, automobile, life and health, employee benefit, and commercial insurance products.
Business Challenge:
To attract new insurance customers.
The GWBJ’s Plan:
The James E. Moore Insurance Agency began working with the Business Journal in 2011 with a modest advertising budget.
After finding success with its initial investment, the agency increased its advertising presence in both the Business Journal and WILMA magazine. By 2014, the James E. Moore Insurance Agency was taking a diversified approach to its marketing efforts, appearing in WilmingtonBiz.com web ads, SpotOn web videos and in traditional Business Journal print ads. Jim Moore, the company’s president, also contributed articles about insurance for WILMA magazine’s advertorial section (now WILMA Insights).
The Results:
The phones started ringing. The agency has found particular success with its placements in WILMA magazine. For example, Moore said that the agency received many calls and positive comments after an article he wrote about wind insurance appeared as an advertorial in the December 2014 edition of WILMA. This January, the agency received a call from a potential new client who told Moore, “I was not familiar with the James E. Moore Insurance Agency, but I read your wind article in WILMA magazine and, as a result, I am going to buy my insurance from you.”
This year, Moore plans to increase the agency’s advertising presence in WILMA magazine and in the Business Journal.
