A Quick Guide To Furnace Repairs

Sponsored Content provided by Jimmy Williams - Owner, O’Brien Service Company

During the cold winter months, it’s important to make sure your heating system is working properly. If it’s not or you’re not sure, give O’Brien a call.

There are many things that could be causing your gas furnace to have issues, and we’re here to help you find them. But before you call us, there are a few things you can check yourself that may fix your problem.

  1. If you are comfortable and familiar with the pilot, check that it is lit.

  2. Check the thermostat to ensure that it is on the correct setting.

  3. Make sure that your filters are clean. If they are dirty, be sure to change them quickly.

  4. Check that the circuit breaker is on.

  5. Test the batteries in your carbon monoxide detector.

If you do not feel comfortable checking any of these, O’Brien can do it for you.

When it comes to major repairs, leave the work to a professional. Trying to fix a major furnace repair yourself can not only be dangerous to the system, but also to your health and safety.  The best way to prevent a furnace repair is to make sure that your unit is serviced annually by a professional. This will ensure that your furnace is running at its peak efficiency and can help prevent costly repairs. To learn more about our maintenance plan, visit our Energy Savings Club page.

When dealing with a gas furnace, be sure to call a professional right away if you smell gas. Make sure your gas switch is turned off and do not light any matches. You should leave your home and contact your gas company or the fire department. You should not return to your home until the situation has been dealt with.

If your furnace needs constant repairs and is more than 10 years old, it might be time to consider a new heating system. O’Brien will gladly help you with the sales process and installation. From furnace repair to maintenance to installation, we’re here for all your gas furnace needs.
