Julie Frederiksen, owner and founder of Golden Mean Health (GMH), this week announced Jennifer Humphreys has joined her psychiatric practice at 4024 Oleander Drive, Suite 101.
Humphreys holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, or DNP, from MUSC, according to a news release.
A native of North Carolina, Humphreys grew up outside Charlotte. After earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, she obtained her master’s degree in nursing from MUSC before earning er DNP degree in 2017.
Humphreys, a licensed psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP), said her decision to pursue mental health was in part due to her mother's chosen profession, the release stated.
“Growing up with a mom who was a social worker for the state and eventually a private care provider, I felt like I had a front row seat to North Carolina’s mental health care system,” she said in the release.
Humphreys also said the COVID pandemic encouraged her to pursue the mental health field and, eventually, her psychiatric certification.
“Working during the COVID pandemic not only provided me with the opportunity, but also the urgency to go back to school for my psychiatric certification due to the increased need I saw in the community,” she said.
The addition of Humphreys to her practice expands access and services for patients needing mental health care, Frederiksen said in the release.
“Jennifer represents the best nursing has to offer, and we are so fortunate to have her,” she said. “Her onboarding means expanded access and services for patients with a variety of mental health and psychiatric conditions in Wilmington and beyond.”
Humphreys specializes in unipolar and bipolar depression, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, trauma, OCD and ADHD for patients ages 12 and older.
