Attorney Matthew Adams has joined the Forrest Firm’s Wilmington office, according to a news release.
Adams joined the firm after practicing as a business and estate planning attorney for the last 13 years in multiple markets across the state of North Carolina, officials said in the release.
In his role at the Forrest Firm, Adams will serve entrepreneurs and executives in the Cape Fear region, providing counsel in multiple areas of corporate law, including taxation (IRS appeals and Tax Court matters), contracts, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate compliance and risk management policies.
Adams also focuses his practice on matters of estate planning and administration, with special emphasis on trust-based plans.
Adams spent the last five years heading the Law Firm of Matthew D. Adams, PLLC in Wilmington. There, he served as corporate and tax counsel to businesses in the area, as well as trustee for multiple special needs and general trusts for estate planning clients, officials said in the release.
He began his career as a staff attorney and tax associate at the Raleigh office of North Carolina accounting and consulting firm Dixon Hughes PLLC in 2004.
Adams entered private practice of the law in 2005, joining Aberdeen law firm Webb & Graves, PLLC, developing his practice in the areas of corporate taxation and estate planning and trust administration.
In 2007, he joined the Farrell Law Group in Raleigh expanding his corporate practice to include corporate formations and securities. In 2008, he left Raleigh for Wilmington, working in corporate taxation and estate planning as a partner at James S. Price and Associates.
Adams moved to the Wilmington firm of Hodges & Coxe PC in 2010 to further expand his corporate practice into areas such as corporate compliance and employment law.
Matthew Adams earned his juris doctor degree in 2004 from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham. He is a 1998 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and sports science.
Adams is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is licensed to practice before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and the U.S. District Court for the East District of North Carolina.
