MOD Pizza will celebrate the grand opening of its location in Ogden Market Place next week.

Founded in Seattle, MOD Pizza specializes in artisan pizzas and salads that are made to order, and the pizzas are cooked in just minutes.

Other fast-casual pizza concepts Your Pie and Blaze Pizza have opened in Wilmington over the past couple of years. A MOD Pizza is also coming to space that is currently under construction in front of Beau Rivage Marketplace on Carolina Beach Road.

With over 30 toppings to choose from, customers build their own pies with unlimited toppings for the same price, or they can choose from several chef-inspired recipes. Pies are 6 or 11 inches, with the option for a mega dough 11-inch pie for those who prefer a thicker crust.

“We have received quite a few requests from our fans in the Wilmington area about building one in the city,” said Matt Jamison, marketing manager for SD Holdings LLC, the franchise company that operates 12 other MOD locations in North Carolina. “We are happy to finally be able to oblige that request. This location was a perfect opportunity for us to introduce our brand to the market and entrench ourselves as a piece of the local community.”

In addition to pizzas and salads, MOD will serve wine, beer, homemade teas and lemonades and handspun milkshakes.

Leading up to the grand opening date, which is Monday, MOD will host a Bridge Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. As part of a final round of training for MOD employees, Bridge Day customers will receive pizzas, salads, sides and non-alcoholic beverages for 50% off. The sales collected that day will go to the company’s Bridge Fund, an emergency fund created to help employees facing unexpected expenses.

“We host a Bridge Day during the last week of training prior to all of our openings,” Jamison said. “Our employees work hard every day to represent our brand, and we’re proud to be able to put this fund together and help them in times of need.”

Jamison said that as a company, MOD values its employees and encourages them to be free to be who they want to be.

On opening day, the first 52 customers will receive a free MOD-size pizza or salad. Fifty percent of all pizza sales will be donated to Best Buddies North Carolina, and all customers are eligible for a drawing to win free pizza for a year.

According to Jamison, SD Holdings has plans to open a second MOD location in Wilmington in the near future, but he did not say where or whether it's the same as the Beau Rivage Marketplace MOD Pizza.

MOD Pizza is located at 7150 Market St. in Ogden Market Place and will be open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
