Sea Love Sea Salt Co. will partner with chefs Matthew Register of Southern Smoke BBQ and Craig Love of Surf House for Salt Fest on Sept. 9.

The dinner, held on the grounds of Sea Love’s salt farm in Burgaw, will feature a farm-to-table dinner with plenty of fresh local produce, smoked meats and seafood, and of course, Sea Love’s hand-harvested, solar-evaporated sea salt.

Amanda and Dave Jacobs purchased the 4.5-acre farm at 1321 Croomsbridge Road nearly two years ago with the help of a Kickstarter campaign. The new space has allowed them to expand their salt production and meet the needs of a growing number of chefs and customers.

As a thank you to donors, the Jacobs held a dinner prepared by Love on the grounds of the farm last year, and Amanda Jacobs said she, along with her guests, couldn’t have been more pleased.

“Everyone was excited to tour the facility but even more thrilled by the opportunity to watch Craig cook and talk with him while he prepared the dinner,” she said.

Since that time, the number of people wanting to tour the farm has grown, and longtime friends Love and Register have been urging the Jacobs to host another dinner that would allow the two of them the opportunity to collaborate on a menu showcasing Sea Love’s salts.

Register said he’s thrilled to have the opportunity to cook with Love and support the Jacobses, who he said have become dear friends.

“They have an unbelievable product that I bring everywhere when I travel throughout the South,” Register said. “And for me, an opportunity to cook with friends is something I really look forward to.”

Register said the menu will feature roasted fish, smoked braised short ribs with herbs and mushrooms, fresh heirloom tomatoes and a handful of surprises that he and Love are concocting.

“The menu will definitely showcase both our personalities, and we are excited to create a few special, unexpected items,” Register said.

The dinner will include a tour of the farm, music from The Midatlantic Band, wine, beer from Flytrap and Broomtail breweries, and a specialty cocktail from Topo Organic Distillery of Chapel Hill. Also on hand will be salted chocolate confections from Chocolatay Confections of Chapel Hill.

A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go to Half United, a Wilmington-based retailer that helps feed the hungry.
