Recent closures on the Wilmington restaurant scene include TGI Fridays and Towne Tap & Grill in the Mayfaire Town Center.

TGI Fridays, which was acquired by Sentinel Capital Partners and TriArtisan Capital Partners last year, has over 900 restaurants in more than 60 countries. The Wilmington location at 4126 Oleander Drive was operated by United Franchise Group, according to a company spokesperson.

“We were notified by our franchisee that the TGI Fridays location in Wilmington, N.C. has closed for economic reasons,” the company said in a statement. “This was a very difficult decision that was not made lightly, as we understand the impact it has on our guests who enjoyed dining at our restaurant and on our team members who worked there. We’re working with our team members to provide job assistance and appreciate and thank our guests for visiting Fridays in Wilmington over the years.”

Towne Tap & Grill, 890 Town Center Drive, posted the following message to its Facebook page on Aug. 17: “It saddens us to inform you that Towne Tap and Grill has shut its doors for the very last time. Thanks to all of you for the wonderful and memorable experience!”

Messages left last week for the Circa Restaurant Group, which owned and operated Towne were not returned.

Paige Somervell, marketing director for Mayfaire Town Center, said she was unable to comment on any possible reasons behind the closure.

“One of our top priorities is to create and maintain an enjoyable shopping and dining experience for our customers,”  Somervell said. “We are speaking with a variety of potential tenants who have interest in the space and look forward to sharing news about a new tenant with you soon.”
