Transformation has happened again at a north Market Street restaurant space that has hosted five concepts in the past six years.

The Fat Greek Taverna this month opened at 6309 Market St., an address that accommodated Fratelli’s Italian Buffet from 2006 to 2008, Café Basil Italian Grill from 2008 to 2009, Well-Seasoned in 2010, Sister Cats in 2011 and Frank’s Classic American Grill from 2012 to 2013.

Years ago the location was home to Market Street Casual Dining.

Sam Karos and family came to Wilmington from Myrtle Beach to open The Fat Greek Taverna as well as a 100-plus-item, seafood-focused buffet restaurant named Seafarer at former The Landing Bar & Grill, 300 N Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach, Karos has said.

Seafarer is scheduled to open in spring. The family has operated buffet and Greek restaurants in Myrtle Beach, Karos has said.

The Fat Greek Taverna menu lists soups, salads, appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, pita pizzas and burgers. Dishes include braised octopus in vinaigrette, spanakopita, pork kebabs, moussaka and pastitsio. Chalkboard specials recently listed lamb kabobs and flounder stuffed with spinach and feta. Prices range from $5 to $15.

At 4,000 square feet, The Fat Greek Taverna seats 120 people in a blue and white dining room with wood and brick accents.
