For the most part, lighting is something we take for granted. Typically, a peron's thought process on the topic goes only as far as to whether the lighting is harsh, soft or appropriate for its intended purpose.
For business owners, however, the topic of choosing a lighting solution deserves a significant amount of time, consideration and, well, I’ll just go ahead and say it, reflection.
As an example, the owner of a fine-dining establishment may not want his patrons to feel like they are being interrogated under the shine of a light that is overly bright or too close to the daylight-end of the spectrum. Instead, his preference may be for a warmer tone that puts his customers at ease and invites them to stay for a while.
On the other hand, a restaurateur who wants to attract a breakfast or lunch-time crowd may shy away from soft, muted tones. If the business owner’s goal is to turn tables or help a contingent of bleary-eyed, weary customers efficiently and effectively sift through their options, a bulb with a brighter and more radiant tone is probably a better choice.
This does not even take into account the condition of the lighting in the parking lot. “Wait, what? The parking lot? Who cares about the parking lot?”
Anyone who cares about their safety entering or exiting a business – that’s who cares about the lighting in a parking lot. A hotel guest or nightclub patron may be concerned about the intensity of the light and if it’s enough to make the parking lot a safe environment.
Safety will always be a primary concern for business owners, but efficiency and cost are also top of mind.
There are definitely a myriad of options pertaining to customizing a lighting solution for a business. Finding a lighting solution that is appropriate for its intended purpose may look like a simple idea, but the choice becomes much more complicated after realizing that the past 20 years have witnessed a revolution in the technologies that affect the industry.
The complexity and the importance of choosing the right lighting solution is multiplied when you consider that all of the so-called “little things” can have a substantial impact on the success of any business. What seems like a minor difference in efficiency and price can add up as years go by and the business grows. What’s more, the wrong choice of atmosphere for a target market could seriously impede a business owner’s aspirations for growth or success.
Over the coming months I’ll detail a number of examples of how my team has worked with businesses in and around the Wilmington area to develop lighting solutions tailored to their unique requirements and plans for the future. I’ll also present some of the latest innovations in our industry and how each can help business owners maximize their bottom lines.
