James E. Moore, Jr., is the president of the James E. Moore Insurance Agency, Inc., a regional independent insurance agency founded in Wilmington, N.C., in 1954. Moore played basketball at UNC Chapel Hill from 1962 to 1966, graduated in 1966, taught biology and physics for a short time, and then served for four years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force before returning to Wilmington in 1971. He has spent more than 40 years practicing as a professional insurance agent and insurance agency owner. His professional designations include Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).

During his career, Moore has served on advisory boards for several major insurance companies, served for four years as a member of the board of directors of the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association, also known as the Coastal Property Insurance Pool, and two more years as vice chairperson of the board. On the local level, Moore is a former president of the Wilmington Association of Independent Insurance Agents and a former longtime insurance adviser to Wilmington and New Hanover County as a member of the Wilmington-New Hanover County Insurance Advisory Committee. In addition, he has served as a board member and board chairperson of the Wilmington Family YMCA.
