Cape Fear Academy has announced the promotion of its director of lower school, Stephanie Medcalfe, to a newly created position of assistant head of school for academics, according to a news release.

In this position, Medcalfe continues to serve as director of the lower school, taking on the added responsibility of serving as Cape Fear Academy’s first director of diversity and inclusion, the release stated. In addition, Medcalfe oversees the director of auxiliary programs and the learning skills coordinator.

"An accomplished educator, Medcalfe is exceptionally well qualified to take on these additional responsibilities," the release stated. "Her sharp intellect, deep understanding of student cognition, leadership, creative problem-solving skills, and passion and expertise in leading diversity and inclusion initiatives made Medcalfe a perfect fit for the role."

Medcalfe holds two degrees from Ball State University, a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's in educational administration.
