UNCW's Schlag Honored By Governor

By Jenny Callison, posted Dec 23, 2014
Heroism, compassion and innovation were among the traits Gov. Pat McCrory recognized in presenting the Governor’s Awards for Excellence at a special ceremony recently at the North Carolina Museum of History.

Amy Schlag, program coordinator in UNCW’s LGBTQIA Resource Office at UNCW, was among the honorees, according to a news release from the governor’s office. She was recognized in the Public Service category.

The Governor’s Award for Excellence is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a state employee, the release stated. Those receiving the honor are recognized for “outstanding accomplishments that are a credit to the person and the state of North Carolina,” the release stated, adding that state employees are nominated for the award by their supervisors and co-workers. Recipients are selected by a committee of their peers.
