Duke Energy's John Elliott Elected Chair Of Chamber Board

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jan 8, 2019
John Elliott has been elected chair of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for 2019, according to the announcement.

Elliott, director of government and community relations for Duke Energy, succeeds 2018 chairman John Gizdic, president and CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, officials said.

Officials said that Elliott is a 21-year veteran of the electric utility business. In his role with Duke Energy, he is responsible for community and government relations in 43 counties that make up the utility’s east region in North Carolina, officials announced.

He previously served in municipal and regional governmental organizations in South Carolina before joining Duke Energy.

Other members of the board include first vice chair Tee Nunnelee (president of Coastal Beverage), second vice chair Michele Holbrook (plant operations manager at Corning), treasurer Neal Andrew (president of Andrew Consulting Engineers), Stephanie Lanier (owner and broker in charge at Lanier Property Group) and Charlie Mattox (BB&T market president).

New members include Lisa Leath (Leath HR Group president), Tracey Jackson (owner of u-nex-o!), Ned Glascock (director of corporate communications and public affairs at PPD), Richard Broadway (construction manager at Rogers Builders Inc.), Laura Blair (vice president of administration and external affairs at N.C. Ports), and Lance Davis (National Gypsum plant manager).

Correction: This story has been corrected to reflect that John Gizdic was the 2018 chairman of the Wilmington Chamber board.
