New Lounge, Eatery To Replace Balcony On Dock Downtown

The owners of Front and Dock, the restaurant group that operates Yo Sake and The Husk, both at 33 S. Front St., are making the final preparations for Dram + Morsel, a new lounge and eatery that will occupy the building’s top floor.

The third-floor space, formerly known as Balcony on Dock, has until now been reserved for private events, primarily weddings, according to co-owner Justin Smith.

Smith said the success of both The Husk and Yo Sake has allowed the group to transform the area from a space that was used only occasionally to a space that will now serve the public in addition to accommodating private parties.

According to Smith, Balcony on Dock often faced challenges such as the lack of third-floor restrooms and kitchen space, so renovations have included a fully vented kitchen as well as restrooms and a new bar.

“This is something we’ve thought about for a long time and we feel it will be an easier and better complement to the rest of the building,” Smith said. “It will have a really fun and energetic vibe.”

Dram + Morsel is inspired by the upscale lounges found in many New York hotel lobbies.  Small plates as well as craft beer and cocktails are the focus. There will be plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs as well as traditional table and bar seating, Smith said.

The menu is still under wraps, but Smith did say the plates are designed to be shared. A Sunday brunch is also in the works, but will not be available right away.

Dram + Morsel will be open to the public 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday, and available for private events the rest of the week.

An early December opening is planned.
