Wilmington officials convinced producers of Swamp Thing to stay in the Port City and continue with the filming project after producers were worried about flooding from Hurricane Florence, Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said Tuesday.

“We almost lost the Swamp Thing the other day by DC Comics because the producers thought the entire city was underwater, and we had to convince them that that wasn't the case,” Saffo said in a Wilmington City Council meeting with state and local leaders. “That's [a] $100 million production with 300 people.”

Swamp Thing, a Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment series to be aired in DC Universe’s streaming service, is slated to film in Wilmington and has set up offices at EUE/Screen Gems Studio.

Swamp Thing was one of two projects filming recently in Wilmington. Reprisal, a pilot for Hulu, was slated to start filming earlier this month.

Reprisal, a revenge tale, is still expected to shoot in the Port City, with officials working out the logistics after the storm caused a delay.

"Last I heard, they're aiming to try and start shooting next week," said Johnny Griffin, director of the Wilmington Regional Film Commission, on Tuesday afternoon.

He said the commission is working to help keep those projects going in Wilmington and to attract additional film projects.
