Janine Iamunno
Executive director of university relations, UNCW
Uses technology to stay on top of media coverage and trends in both the communications industry and higher education, “to keep tabs on friends and family around the world, to share my ‘zeal for teal’ (aka All Things UNCW) and to feed my news addiction (my boss, chief of staff Max Allen, and I are news junkies. We can blame it on our jobs, but I think it’s just how we’re wired – literally).”
Iamunno is a magazine fan, with 11 subscriptions. Also reads WILMA and is a new fan of O.Henry Magazine out of Greensboro. “And I love the feel of newsprint on my fingers, so I’ll read any paper that crosses my path. Lately, that’s GWBJ, Encore and StarNews.”
Favorite websites and blogs are Inside Higher Ed and UNCW.edu as well as WhatsOnWilmington and Port City Daily. Also looks at the major news dailies’ sites, Pitchfork for general music news, TheBloggess.com, PeguApp.com – “which I believe could change the way people interact with local professionals,” MediaBistro and Patch [her former employer] sites to keep up with local news from coast to coast.
TV picks are Downton Abbey “until it did whatever the English equivalent of ‘jumping the shark’ is” as well as Palladia and CBS Sunday Morning.
Book recommendations include Truth in Advertising by John Kenney and A Town of Empty Rooms by Karen E. Bender.
