Wilmington Companies, Business Leaders Recognized By NC Tech Awards

By Audrey Elsberry, posted Sep 27, 2023
The NC Tech Association announced on Wednesday individual winners for its 2023 NC Tech Awards, including one winner representing a longstanding Wilmington-based business.

Reeds Jewelers Chief Information Officer Arthur Phidd won Chief Information Officer of the Year for the private sector, NC Tech announced.

Phidd will be honored at the statewide group's awards event Nov. 1 at the Raleigh Convention Center. Although Phidd was named a category winner ahead of the event, several Wilmington leaders and tech companies are finalists and will find out at the event whether they won.

Shaun Olsen, CEO of Wilmington-based internet provider company Cloudwyze, was announced as one of four finalists for Tech CEO of the Year award. Results from a poll of fellow tech CEOs will determine the winner in that category, according to NC Tech.

The organization announced finalists last week in the Technology Corporate Awards and Use of Technology Awards categories.

Wilmington's finalists and their categories include:
  • Biotech company Boreas Monitoring Solutions — Biotech/Healthtech Company
  • Fintech company Apiture — Great Places to Work and Fintech/Insurtech Company
  • Biotech company OpiAID — AI + Data Analytics and a “Tech for Good” award
  • Software company Vantaca — NC Tech HQ Company
  • Software company Ohanafy — Top Tech Startups to Watch
  • Mobile app company Local Catch — Agtech Company
"These selections are a testament to the positive, hardworking culture we've developed and to our focus on developing innovative digital banking solutions for financial institutions across the country," Apiture CEO Chris Babcock said in a release regarding the announcement.

The NC Tech Awards gala is NC Tech’s largest event of the year, and it includes a reception, dinner and the awards ceremony. More than 700 people are expected to attend, according to NC Tech’s website.
