Dick's Sets Opening For Mayfaire Store

By Cece Nunn, posted Aug 25, 2014
Dick’s Sporting Goods will open its new store in Mayfaire Community Center and begin grand opening festivities at 8 a.m. Sept. 5, according to a news release from the Pittsburgh-based retail giant.

The celebration continues through Sept. 7, when the 50,000-square-foot store opens at 9 a.m. Events include hourly fishing shows starting at 11 a.m. each day at Dick’s 4,000-gallon bass tank and giveaways for shoppers who get to the store early.

The new store will be the 31st in North Carolina, said company officials. Although earlier there were suggestions that Dick's existing Wilmington store, located at 816 S. College Road, might close when the Mayfaire location opened, the company said there are no plans to close other area locations.

Dick's is one of several retailers opening in the Mayfaire Community Center off Military Cutoff Road and Parker Farm Drive. Construction also is underway for a 24,000-square-foot Marshalls. PetSmart will be located in a 12,000-square-foot portion of the center.

The Mayfaire Community Center is south of the Mayfaire Town Center inside the 400-acre master planned Mayfaire development created by Wilmington-based Zimmer Development Co. and Greenville-based BrodyCo. Inc. The Community Center already includes Harris Teeter and restaurants such as Panera Bread, Ruby Tuesday and Chick-fil-A.
