Meet the Greek, a soon-to-open Wilmington restaurant, is the brainchild of husband and wife team Ilias Sarris and Nefeli Kalampogia. It’s a new fast-casual, authentic Greek restaurant located at 5120 College Road in the Monkey Junction Plaza.

“I grew up in Greece,” Sarris said. “From a young age, I worked in restaurants, and I developed a deep love for this profession as it became a form of expression for me.”

“When I moved to the United States, I worked in construction for several years. However, I felt that something was missing from my life – the joy of creating in my kitchen and sharing smiles with customers, along with the richness of Greek culture. That's why I decided to start my own business.”

Greek food offers something for everyone. Founded on the “Mediterranean triad” of wheat, olive oil and wine, its basis for flavor has stood the test of time. Olive oil is a staple in many kitchens worldwide and is produced from olive trees that grow throughout Greece. There are an array of flavor profiles, ranging from savory to sweet, along with health-conscious options to suit any diet or appetite.

“I don't have a specific favorite dish; I appreciate them all,” Sarris said. “Each dish holds its own beauty and flavor, and I hope you find joy in experiencing them as well.”

While Sarris may not have a favorite, his menu is sure to inspire guests to pick a favorite or two. The restaurant’s menu items include “sizzling souvlakis, mouthwatering gyros and authentic Greek delights,” just to name a few.

Meet the Greek offers limited indoor seating with plans to add outdoor seating soon. Sarris’s passion for his business is clear, and he looks forward to sharing that passion for authentic Greek cuisine with his customers.

“For me, cooking is a passion, inspiration and imagination, and I want everyone to have the opportunity and pleasure of trying it,” he said. “Meet the Greek may not be large, but I put a lot of love and creativity into making it as warm and enjoyable as possible for everyone.”
