Now open for three months, J. Russo’s Eatery will celebrate a grand opening this Saturday, Nov. 14.

While business has been a bit slower than he would like, owner Joey Russo is hoping to spread the word that local small businesses need the community’s support during these difficult times.

J. Russo’s, at 3536 Carolina Beach Road, specializes in home-style cooking with breakfast and lunch served all day. Breakfast items include several breakfast sandwiches and omelettes, pancakes, French toast and Belgian waffles.

There are also several breakfast platters such as chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy and JR’s Big Breakfast, which includes three eggs any style, two pancakes, choice of bacon or sausage, choice of grits or home fries and choice of toast or biscuit.

The lunch menu features a fried shrimp basket, burgers, patty melts and all-beef hotdogs, and sandwiches such as a Reuben prepared with homemade corned beef. There are also several salads and a wide variety of sides.

The eatery offers indoor and outdoor seating, with about 40 seats on the patio. A band was planned for Saturday’s grand opening, but it’s looking like the weather may not cooperate, said Russo.

On Sunday during brunch, jazz guitarist Bill Kerr is scheduled to play on the patio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Because the restaurant is not currently open in the evening, Russo is looking to book socially-distanced private events for the holidays, and online ordering through Chow Now will soon be available through the eatery's website.
