The owners of the Sawmill Restaurant in Monkey Junction and the Sawmill Grill in Hampstead will soon open a Wrightsboro location set to serve as both a café and catering hub.
Sawmill Café and Catering is expected to open at 2528 Castle Hayne Road in early November. Executive chef and co-owner Charles Davis said the café will serve breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. seven days a week, and the majority of the company’s full-service catering events will be prepared at this location.
The current Sawmill facilities will still handle smaller scale events and pick-up orders, but Davis said having a facility dedicated to catering will allow the company to successfully accommodate multiple orders and events on the same day.
“The new location will allow for us to continue to grow and better serve our customers,” Davis said.
Davis attended Johnson & Whales University when it was located in Charleston, SC, and opened Sawmill in Monkey Junction with the help of his father, Michael Davis, in 1998.
Sean Franklin came on board as a partner in 2001 and the Hampstead location opened in 2007. Davis said that since 2009 his focus has been on growing the company’s catering business.
Since that time the company has grown from catering two or three weddings a year to 50 to 75 a year as well as numerous large corporate events said Davis. They can accommodate everything from pick up orders for groups of 10-15 up to full service events for 400, and Davis describes Sawmill’s catering menu as everything from grits and gravy to filet mignon and sushi.
“We’ve catered at every venue in town as well as in Fayetteville, Jacksonville, Raleigh and Myrtle Beach,” Davis said. “Our main goal is good food, good service and a good price. We are here to help make your event a success.”
Sawmill Restaurant is located at 5611 Carolina Beach Rd. in Wilmington; Sawmill Grill is located at 15919 U.S. Highway 17 in Hampstead, and this November at 2528 Castle Hayne Rd. Suite 1.
