KC’s Good Times Diner will be the latest in a series of restaurants to occupy 1016 S. College Road. The space was previously home to Monica’s, Corbett’s Burgers and Soda Bar and Wilmington House of Pizza.
 
Owner Konstantinos Fontanas plans to open a family-operated, 1950s-style diner the first weekend in December. Fontanas owned and operated KC’s Diner in Charlotte for eight years before relocating to Wilmington last year. He and his wife, Carlene, had been scouting possible locations for a new diner when the South College Road space became available.

Konstantinos Fontanas said that while the kitchen required a complete remodel and all new equipment, the dining space already lent itself to the atmosphere of a 50s diner.
 
The diner's menu will include breakfast served all day, sandwiches, fried seafood, pasta and entrees such as meatloaf, country fried steak and liver and onions. There are Greek specialties such as gyros and spinach pie on the menu, with additional Greek and Polish entrees to be offered as daily specials, according to Konstantinos Fontanas.
 
“We specialize in home-style cooking,” he said.
 
The large breakfast menu includes a variety of meats, three-egg omelets, pancakes and waffles, and breakfast sandwiches and skillets. The skillets include fried potatoes topped with sautéed onions, cheddar cheese, eggs, a choice of meat and sausage gravy, served with toast or a homemade biscuit.
 
“The breakfast skillets were some of our most popular items on the menu in Charlotte,” Carlene Fontanas said.
 
While Konstantinos will man the kitchen, Carlene Fontanas and her daughter will help out wherever they are needed. The couple plans to hire an additional six to 10 employees.
 
KC’s Good Times Diner will be open 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday; 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday; and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
