The Pointe At Barclay’s Growing Restaurant List

The menu mix for The Pointe at Barclay development continues to grow.

Three local restaurateurs – Ash Aziz of Circa Group and partners BT Corrigan and Randall Willard of Halligan’s Public House and Siena Trattoria – announced earlier this year that they would be bringing new concepts to The Pointe at Barclay development.

Now, in addition to Aziz’s Il Forno Pizzeria, and Corrigan and Willard’s Tavern on 17th, a number of additional restaurants have signed lease agreements for the multi-use development now under construction at South 17th Street and Independence Avenue.

Among them are popular sandwich shops Chops Deli and Which Wich.

Brad Corpening, co-owner of Wilmington-based Chops Deli, which has three local locations, said he and partner Chris Graham are still work shopping ideas for the new location.

“It’s a bit early to release any details, but we are looking at a number of options for that location to mix things up a little,” Corpening said. “We are committed to the development but are still negotiating a space based upon what’s appropriate to our needs.”

Corpening said he and Graham are pleased with the development’s commitment to incorporating green spaces into the layout.

“The Pointe will serve a huge number of residents, and it’s very exciting to be a part of the development of this area.” Corpening said.

Ben Brown, who owns the local franchise of Dallas-based Which Wich with wife Ann, has been seeking a second local location for his sandwich shop for some time. Brown signed a two-store deal with Which Wich and has spent the past few years researching options for a second location.

After a couple of initial agreements fell through, Brown said he became aware of the Pointe about two-and-a-half years ago and decided it would be in his best interest to wait it out and secure a spot in the new development.

“The Pointe is going to have a great mix of dining and retail as well as locally owned and corporate businesses, much like our current location [at Mayfaire Town Center],” Brown said. “And that has served us very well. We look forward to being a part of the growth in that area of town.”
