Lane Trogdon and partners, who operate Smoothie King at 415 S. College Road, plan to open a second location at 2326 S. 17th St. the first week in July.

Trogdon signed the largest-ever franchise agreement with Smoothie King in 2015, with an agreement to open a total of 55 stores by 2020. He currently also operates stores in Chapel Hill and Norfolk, Virginia.

The new location, a 1,400-square-foot space in Canterwood Center, will have several hi-top tables, outdoor seating, free-Wi-Fi and a drive-thru.

“People are looking for convenience, so we believe the drive-thru will serve us well in this location,” Trogdon said.

Smoothie King is featuring several new blends for summer, including watermelon, passion fruit peach and strawberry mango hydrators with electrolytes as well as wellness blends such as orange and mixed berry with herbal immune enhancers.

Trogdon said the company is focused on helping people achieve a healthy, active lifestyle. The customizable menu offers options for all types of dietary needs. Skinny smoothies, meal-replacement smoothies and the ability to add fiber and protein while removing sugar, allows customers to make healthy choices.

“We’re a healthy alternative to fast food,” Trogdon said, “yet still fast and affordable.”

Smoothie King offers call-ahead ordering and is currently working on an app and website for online ordering. Catering and delivery are also available.

The new Smoothie King location will be open from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
