Famous Toastery franchisees Diane and Joe Kloiber and son Joe Jr. announced plans for a Wilmington location last September and have been working to renovate the building at 6722 Wrightsville Ave.

With finishing touches, staffing and training now taking place, the Kloibers say they will be open for business the first week in May.

Famous Toastery began as Toast Café in Huntersville, North Carolina, in 2005.

The company evolved into a franchise system in 2013 under the direction of founders Robert Maynard and Brian Burchill. There are currently eight locations in North Carolina and two in South Carolina. The company attributes its steady growth to a commitment to quality ingredients and exceptional service. Maynard and Burchill have trademarked the company’s slogan: “Every server is your server.”

“We believe that the food from our scratch kitchen and our impeccable service is bar none,” Maynard said. “We fly in fresh lobster every morning, and it is a high-end experience without a high-end price tag. We think that Wilmington is a great market for the brand.”

Famous Toastery will serve breakfast and lunch daily, offering all of the breakfast classics as well as sandwiches, burgers, salads and daily specials.

“Everything we serve is made fresh daily, and every item is made to order,” Joe Kloiber Jr. said. “We use the best quality ingredients and do everything we can to take care of our customers.”

Kloiber said that the kitchen is organized to be able to achieve very fast ticket times. That, he says, combined with the "every server is your server" approach, equals great customer service.

“It’s our belief that people may be willing to wait for a table, but once they’re seated, they expect to be served quickly,” Kloiber said.

Kloiber said that as part of the franchisee selection process, he had to train in every position at the restaurant. He said it is vital to the success of the operation for the owners to understand exactly what each position entails. He describes the service at Famous Toastery as “high energy and fast paced.”

With two levels of dining space, Famous Toastery can accommodate larger parties and hopes to offer after-hours event space and catering in the near future.
