In honor of Wilmington’s 275th birthday, which will be celebrated on Sept. 27, Front Street Brewery has prepared a celebratory brew.

Beer 275 Wilmington will feature FBS’s single hop series double cascade IPA aged in Jack Daniels oak barrels. It registers about 9 percent alcohol by volume.

“We used 100 percent cascade hops, and the beer was aged in the Jack Daniel's barrels for a full year,” said Front Street Brewery's brew master Kevin Kozak. “So it’s got great citrus notes from the hops and tons of whiskey flavor.”

Officials with Front Street Brewery, which has been brewing beer in Wilmington for almost 20 years, said they were proud to celebrate the historic event with the special brew.

A limited release of three kegs goes on tap at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 27, which happens to fall on the same weekend as Front Street Brewery's annual Oktoberfest celebration.

Oktoberfest will kick off Sept. 26 and run through the weekend. Specials for the event include a pretzel and a pint for $5 and bratwurst plates and pork schnitzel plates for $7.99 and $9.99, respectively, each served with homemade German potato salad. Oktoberfest mugs will be available while supplies last.

Also taking place on Sept. 27 is Wilmington’s Wine & Beer Walk, presented by the Downtown Business Alliance and Bring It! Downtown. The event will take place 1-6 p.m. and will begin at Ziggy’s By the Sea, where patrons will receive a Wilmington Wine & Beer Walk ID and a map of participating venues. The full list of venues has not yet been released, but patrons will receive two samples per venue of a specially selected wine or beer. All participants must be at least 21 years of age.

Tickets are $15 each or two for $25 and can be purchased online or at
The Fortunate Glass and Front Street Brewery.
