Elizabeth’s Pizza has announced the launch of MOD Bar, a full bar attached to the restaurant.

Previously home to MOD jewelry and accessories – which was run by Annamaria Lookman, the daughter of co-owners Maria and Shamer Lookman – the bar will serve the restaurant but is designed to be its own entity as well.

Annamaria Lookman, who is beginning an MBA program at Cornell University this fall, wanted to leave her parents with a more sustainable option than the jewelry store she had managed for the past four years.

“We’ve always talked about putting in the bar, and we finally decided that this was the time to pull the trigger,” she said. “And the space is great; it’s the perfect addition.”

The 45-seat bar features tabletops sourced from Duplin County, original metal ceilings from 1962 and a wall of photographs taken by Shamer Lookman, many of them taken in Italy.

“We wanted it to feel as if you’re visiting someone’s home,” Annamaria Lookman said.

The full Elizabeth’s menu will be available at MOD Bar, and the bar will have its own menu of Stuzichi (bar bites), such as Parmigiana Sliders and Fried Ravioli.

Changes are in store for Elizabeth’s menu, among them the addition of 10 new specialty pizzas. Another will be several new raviolis, including Annamaria Lookman’s favorite: a short rib ravioli with a creamy fresh mushroom sauce and of garlic and parsley.

Because MOD Bar is a full liquor bar, Elizabeth’s will now be able to serve cocktails in addition to an expanded selection of beer and wine.

A grand opening celebration is planned for August. Elizabeth’s Pizza and MOD Bar are located at 4304 Market St.
