Restaurateur and businessman Ralph Roof has brought a new kind of barbeque to Carolina Beach.

His new eatery, Buster’s, specializes in smoked beef that combines barbeque styles common to the Baltimore area as well as to Texas. Roof has spent time in both areas and developed the hybrid smoking technique where the meat is slow cooked over hickory chips for 12 hours.

“You can smell the smoke as soon as you come in the door,” said employee Cosmo Dibono. “The food is really delicious, and very fresh. You won’t find this style of meat anywhere else in the Wilmington area.”

While the primary focus is beef, Buster’s does serve eastern North Carolina-style pork, turkey and smoked meatloaf as well.  Crab cakes and fish sandwiches are also available. A variety of sides such as French fries, onion rings, barbecue beans, cole slaw and potato salad round out the menu.

Pit Beef and Barbeque Pork are also available by the pound.

The restaurant seats approximately 25 customers and is in the process of obtaining a license to serve beer on premises. The building, owned by Roof, is located at 718 N. Lake Blvd. in Carolina Beach.
