Pizza Abounds At Uncle Louie's

By Liz Biro, posted Sep 19, 2012

A family’s beloved Italian uncle inspired a new Wilmington restaurant, Uncle Louie’s Pizza Lounge.

The 3224 N. College Road spot, near Food Lion, honors owner Paul Campagna’s Uncle Louie Anthony Campagna.

A thin man, Louie Campagna worked in a metal fabricating shop, co-owned a car wash and volunteered his time to help kids, but “he loved to eat. One of Louie’s passions was pizza: any size, any topping, any style. There wasn’t a slice of pizza that Uncle Louie didn’t like, according to information at the Uncle Louie's Pizza Lounge website, www.unclelouiespizzalounge.com.

Uncle Louie’s pizza is available by the slice ($2.50) or whole pies ($12.50-$14.50). Made from fresh, hand-tossed dough, the rounds are served plain, Margherita-style with fresh mozzarella or with a choice of toppings, which include bacon, broccoli and meatballs.

Salads, sandwiches and pasta entrees are served, too. Find out about daily lunch and drink specials at Uncle Louie’s Facebook page, which recently listed veggie lasagna with eggplant and summer squash and the open-faced “Pizza Sub.”

Paul Campagna opened Uncle Louie’s with his wife, Tanya; father, Rocky Campagna; and brother, Rick Campagna. The well-appointed dining room sports dark wood schoolhouse chairs, olive green and sunset-colored walls and a full bar named Louie’s Lounge.

Hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
