Sweet news for Sweet ‘n’ Savory

Expansion plans are evolving at what is already being termed “the Sweet ‘n’ Savory complex,” as S ‘n’ S owners figure out how they will used their newly acquired ex-Kefi location next door. Robert Shapiro and his wife, Dayna Coon-Shapiro, a few weeks ago leased the former Kefi location and plan to transform it into an all-casual European-style The Pub at Sweet ‘n’ Savory. A covered walkway will link the two units. On the menu? An equal mix of food and drinks that couples and families can enjoy. Also on tap: a late-night menu, cocktails, 200 wines and 100 beers by the bottle.

More Italian in Leland

Keep a lookout in coming months for a new Pizzetta’s at 500,000 square-foot The Villages at Brunswick Forest retail and professional center, anchored by Lowe’s Foods and recently opened CVS/Pharmacy. Sal Lucido and Vito Lucchese, owners of the existing restaurant, say the opportunity to move into fast-growing Leland convinced them to expand from their current Oleander Road location. The second Pizzetta’s will offer the same pizza, soup, sandwiches, salads and Italian entrees mix but in a larger spot with a separate bar and outdoor seating.

Diner spawns sports bar

College Diner owners Antonio and Yianni Ionannou have created CD’s Sports Bar in the rear portion of their restaurant at 911 S. College Road. Seven large flat-screen televisions, sports banners lining the windows and a brick-walled patio give the spot a fun feel, but the atmosphere is all neighborhood pub. The bar menu lists ribs, classic Buffalo-style wings; baked, dry-rubbed wings; calamari; fried pickles; burgers; sandwiches; and a few hot entrees. There will be nightly drink specials.

Trendy tap room at Mayfaire

Ash Aziz has replaced his Happy Days Diner at Mayfaire Town Center with Towne Tap & Grill.  The white tiled interior with a 1950s vibe has been transformed into a dark wood pub with well padded dark brown stools. The beer menu includes 24 draft and 13 bottled varieties, including Suds include Carolina Blonde cream ale, Bells Oberon wheat ale and Dogfish 90 Minute IPA. Towne also offers 11 white and 10 red wines as well as cocktails.
