Firm Plans For Future By Seeking Warehouse Approval

A Wilmington firm submitted site plans for a more than 167,000-square-foot warehouse that might or might not get built.

The purpose of the submission was to get the approval process going in case a potential tenant for the 8.6-acre property is identified, said Hill Rogers, broker in charge of Cameron Management.

Cameron Co. Lt., the owner of the property at 820 Sunnyvale Drive, is not currently in negotiations with a specific tenant, Rogers said. But it made sense to get the approval process, which can take six months or more, going.

The path to approval includes traffic comments, utility comments and zoning comments, among others.

"It helps us to market the site to go ahead and have a site plan approved," Rogers said.

Then one of the only things left to do is get a building permit, he said.

The Cameron family is one of the largest land owners in the area.

"We're just making more of a concerted effort to get any land we think appropriate for devleopment to go ahead and get it site plan approved," Rogers said.

The warehouse preliminary plans were drawn by Hanover Design Services, according to the document. The plans are scheduled to be reviewed by the city's Technical Review Committee on Nov. 7, according to the city's project tracking website.

The property is next to National Gypsum Co., a wallboard plant that restarted operations at its Sunnyvale Drive location last year.

Clarification: This version has been changed to indicate that the property would likely be developed and leased rather than sold.
