On Oleander Drive, Escape Room Moving To New Location

By Cece Nunn, posted Sep 8, 2017
The first escape room to open in Wilmington is moving to a new location along the same prominent roadway.

Cape Fear Escape Room, which opened at 5747-A Oleander Drive in October 2015, will relocate later this month to Suite 205 at 5710 Oleander Drive. Escape rooms are a form of entertainment that challenges participants to solve a series of puzzles and clues within a certain amount of time to "escape" the rooms they're in, with interactive elements that require observation and cooperation.

The family that owns Cape Fear Escape Room discovered the trend while on a trip to Canada a couple years ago.

“It’s been an amazing two years and we are thrilled to start our third year in a fresh new location across the street from our current location,” said Kim Wilt, owner of Cape Fear Escape Room, in an announcement this week.  “The new space is beautiful and allows us to further serve our corporate clients.”

The new location will feature a conference area including amenities needed by corporate clients for teambuilding events and off-site meetings, the announcement said. Up to 20 people can participate at one time.

“While we remain a popular evening and weekend entertainment destination for both locals and tourists, we see our biggest growth coming from corporate clients,” Wilt said.  “We are an affordable, amenity-rich facility ideal for small companies and for individual departments.”

The new space opens Sept. 30, the announcement said. Wilt said remaining on Oleander Drive was important to her.

"We really felt like we can catch the beach traffic and Mayfaire traffic and even up in the Porters Neck area," she said Thursday. "It’s just become such a corridor between downtown and the beach so we really felt like we were in a great location."

The facility is open seven days a week for corporate clients, according to the announcement. Inquiries for availability can be made by emailing [email protected] or visiting Cape Fear Escape Room's website.
