WILM-TV, Sunrise Broadcasting To Operate Out Of Updated Facility

By Cece Nunn, posted Feb 9, 2017
Two divisions of Capitol Broadcasting Company in Wilmington will soon be located in one facility as they also combine marketing strategies.

WILM-TV 10 and Sunrise Broadcasting, which consists of five radio stations including Sunny 103.7 (WILT-FM), will operate out of Sunrise's building on North Kerr Avenue near Market Street, after some extensive renovations, officials said.

"We're taking the old building that Sunrise radio stations are located in and gutting it. We took it all the way down to the studs, almost ripped out all the walls with the exception of the studio and have redesigned the whole thing," said Constance Knox, general manager of WILM.

For Knox, the combination has been a goal for a long time.

"I've been trying to move our TV station and radio stations in to one building for seven years now. Finally, we're going to make it happen," she said.

She said the move should be done by mid-March, if not sooner, with the aim of creating a cohesive marketing company that offers digital marketing, TV and radio under one roof.

"It's better collaboration when we're all in the same place," Knox said.

WILM’s contract with CBS expired Dec. 31, a change that allowed the station to offer a variety of new sports broadcasts, including a lot of University of North Carolina Wilmington and other North Carolina college basketball games.

Currently, WILM and Sunrise are mainly using WILM's Wrightsville Avenue space and have merged sales teams, Knox said. The two have more than 40 employees, with another 15 who work on the TV station's behalf in Raleigh.
