Publix To Hold Grand Opening For First Wilmington Store In August

By Cece Nunn, posted Jul 19, 2016
Wilmington's first Publix grocery store will hold a grand opening in August, the company announced Tuesday.

The Publix supermarket at 716 Bragg Drive in Wilmington will welcome customers beginning at 7 a.m. Aug. 10, according to an email from Kim Reynolds, media and community relations manager for Publix.

The company announced the lease for the Bragg Drive location in August 2015.

Vin Wells, a broker with Cape Fear Commercial who has been managing the project for his firm’s development arm, GHK Cape Fear Development, said earlier this year that Publix saw a need to be in the Wilmington market because of the area's projected growth.

In May, Publix also announced another Wilmington location through a lease of space in an upcoming shopping center, Ogden Market Place, at Market Street and Middle Sound Loop Road.

Publix is one of several companies bringing grocery stores to the Wilmington area for the first time, a group that includes grocery store chains Lidl and Aldi.
