New retailers are headed to Mayfaire’s Community Center.

When officials launch the phase two development in the 203,000-square-foot retail center, plans will include a new 50,000-square-foot Dick’s Sporting Goods and a 24,000-square-foot Marshalls store, according to a Thursday news release.

A third anchor store is in the works and will be announced in the coming weeks, the news release stated. Mayfaire officials also are preleasing 12,000 square feet of retail space that will also be included in the development.

Marshalls and Dick's Sporting Goods will close their existing stores on New Centre Drive and South College Road, respectively, to open in Mayfaire, said Sue Rice, Mayfaire director of operations.

The Mayfaire Community Center is south of the Mayfaire Town Center inside the 400-acre master planned Mayfaire development that was created by the Wilmington-based Zimmer Development Company and Greenville-based BrodyCo. Inc. Harris Teeter and numerous restaurants, including Panera Bread, Ruby Tuesday and Chick-fil-A, currently anchor the community center.

Overall, the new tenants will add another 86,000 square feet to the retail development.

Pending city approval and proper permitting, Mayfaire officials hope to launch construction on phase two in the coming weeks, with plans to open the new stores by November of next year -- creating more than 200 construction jobs in the process, the news release stated.

H.J. Brody, a developer with BrodyCo Inc., said the new anchor tenants’ desire to move to Mayfaire solidifies the area’s retail resurgence and dominance.

“We continue to grow the Mayfaire brand and strengthen our tenant mix as we welcome the addition of both Dick’s Sporting Goods and Marshalls to our property from their previous locations in the Wilmington market,” Brody said in the news release.
