After announcements about two resignations, New Hanover Community Endowment officials touted two hirings.

Dan Winslow, the endowment's incoming president and CEO, has added an interim chief marketing officer, Jodi-Tatiana Charles, and an administrative assistant for operations, Gabriella Diaz. They will join the endowment staff in October, and both roles are new to the organization, according to a news release.

The endowment revealed Monday that its executive vice president of programs and operations, Lakesha McDay, had submitted her resignation. McDay is remaining in a consultancy role to “ensure a smooth transition of new leadership" for Winslow, according to Monday's announcement. News outlets on Tuesday reported the resignation of the endowment's communications director, Kevin Maurer, whose last day with the group is Oct. 4.

Endowment board chair Bill Cameron said in the McDay news release that during the transition to a new CEO, “staff hiring and departures are normal and to be expected as the endowment continues to evolve and focus on making an impact within our community.” The endowment's inaugural CEO, William Buster, resigned earlier this year. 

According to the endowment's hiring announcement, Charles comes to NHCE with more than 30 years of "global experience in marketing, communications and change management. She is an award-winning marketing strategist and has led innovative campaigns for nonprofits, small businesses and global corporations. Her expertise extends to building meaningful partnerships, managing multichannel marketing campaigns, and leading cross-functional teams."

Charles founded LCG Brands, a Massachusetts-based marketing and business development consultancy, according to the company's website.

Winslow stated in the release, “Jodi’s experience working with diverse sectors, including nonprofits, coupled with her passion for community engagement will help amplify the endowment’s efforts to address critical needs in education, social and health equity, community development and safety and create long-term, community-driven solutions."

Diaz (pictured at right) joins the NHCE as an experienced administrative assistant with a background in supporting organizational leadership, the release stated. According to the release, "She is fluent in Spanish and will be an asset as the Endowment continues its work with diverse populations."

“Gabriella’s experience will be instrumental in advancing the endowment’s mission and connecting with the community,” Winslow said. “She will be an asset to our administrative and operations work and serve as the administrative liaison to the Board and support the operations team.”

According to the release, Charles and Diaz will join the NHCE team in early October shortly after Winslow’s official start date on Oct. 1.
