Interroll, a global provider of material handling solutions, is supplying rollers and conveyors for some big-name end users.
Its Wilmington facility, under the name Interroll Corp., has been making an array of conveyor products in the area since 1989, according to Interroll Corp. Operations Manager Andre Robinson.
The company is located inside a 200,000-square-foot building off Corporate Drive in the North Chase Industrial Park in northern New Hanover County.
Its production space is 165,000 square feet with room for growth, Robinson said.
Among the company’s end users are leading brands such as Amazon, The Coca-Cola Co., Nestlé SA, Procter & Gamble Corp. and Wal- Mart Inc., officials said.
The company employs about 100 people at the Wilmington plant. Workers at the facility use hand-and- tool assembly, CNC machining, machine presses and other methods of production to make four different types of product lines, Robinson said.
Those products include idler rollers, motorized rollers (or roller drives), drum motors and conveyor systems, he said.
“There’s a lot of technical aspects of the business and there’s so many different products … that we offer within those four product lines,” Robinson said.
Its conveyor rollers tend to be the highest-volume seller for the facility, followed by its roller drives and drum motors. The company also supplies conveyor systems, which include components such as its rollers, roller drives and carts.
Interroll Corp. takes raw materials, both purchased and made by the company, to assemble its line of products, Robinson said. The company then ships the products to the customer from the Wilmington site.
The Wilmington facility distributes Interroll products across the country and also has global distribution, he said.
“Interroll is a global market. We build it here for the Americas, but there are plants throughout the world that build the same type of components that we build,” Robinson said. “There are … other American facilities, but they don’t build what we build,” he added.
The Wilmington site is one of three facilities that manufacture products in the United States with Interroll Atlanta LLC in Hiram, Georgia, and Interroll Engineering West in Cannon City, Colorado.
Headquartered in Switzerland, Interroll has a global network of 32 companies, officials said.
Interroll solutions are in operation in express and postal services, e-commerce, airports, the food and beverage industry, fashion and automotive sectors, as well as many other manufacturing industries.
“We’re not integrators. What we do is provide components to the people who integrate systems for other companies,” Robinson said. “We’re used in many different facilities throughout the world.”
