Partner: Ziggy's Winston-Salem Closure Will Not Affect Ziggy's By The Sea

By Jenny Callison, posted Nov 18, 2015
Despite troubles facing music venue Ziggy’s in Winston-Salem, the beat will go on as usual at Ziggy’s By the Sea in Wilmington, Jay Stephens, one of three partners in the Ziggy’s Winston Inc., said Wednesday.

The owners of the Winston-Salem building have declined to renew Ziggy’s lease when it expires at the end of February, and the music space will close, Stephens said. He hinted at larger issues, however, saying that he and the other partners – Bradford McCauley and Charles Womack – were not seeing eye to eye.

Regardless of what Stephens termed “a mess” in Winston-Salem, operations in Wilmington should not change, even though the lease on the building at 208 Market St. is in the Ziggy’s Winston Inc. name, he said.

Johnny Nethercutt, a manager of Ziggy’s By the Sea, confirmed that the local music venue will continue on course.

“Our lease doesn’t expire until 2023, and we have a good relationship with our landlord,” he said Wednesday. “Everything’s good down here.”

Nethercutt said that McCauley and Womack have talked about the possibility of opening another music venue in Winston-Salem if they were to separate from Stephens and the Ziggy’s corporation. Such a performance space would not necessarily bear the Ziggy’s name but could potentially work with Ziggy’s By the Sea in booking talent, the manager said.
