Enviva Prepares To Construct Second Dome At Port

By Jenny Callison, posted Jul 27, 2015
The second wood pellet storage dome may be a feature of the Port of Wilmington skyline as early as Wednesday, according to an email from wood pellet producer Enviva.

"Weather permitting, Enviva is planning to inflate its second wood pellet storage dome at the Port of Wilmington during [the early morning] hours of Wednesday, July 29th," Jeanne Segal, Enviva spokeswoman, said in the Monday morning email. "We have put the necessary equipment in place and stretched out the 'balloon' material over the dome foundation, so we are ready to go."

If weather conditions change to less-favorable ones, the inflation will be postponed, Segal said.

The first of the two domes was inflated June 15 and then reinforced with steel and concrete on the interior. The same process will be followed with the second dome.
