New NHC Principals Appointed

The New Hanover County school district recently named two new principals for the school year.
 
Samuel Highsmith was appointed principal at Myrtle Grove Middle, according to a press release from the school system. Eric Pfirman also was appointed interim principal at Hoggard High School until a permanent principal is hired. 

Highsmith was most recently an assistant principal at Myrtle Grove. Previously, he was an assistant principal at Eaton Elementary School and Ashley High School. He also taught social studies at Hoggard High School, where he was the men’s basketball coach and varsity cheerleading coach. Highsmith also served as an assistant principal at South Brunswick High School.
              
Highsmith received a bachelor of science degree in industrial relations from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received N.C. Teacher Certification in secondary social studies and a master’s degree in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
 
Pfirman has served as an assistant principal at Hoggard for the past six years. He previously taught social studies at Statesville High School with the Iredell-Statesville school district.  
 
Pfirman received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa. and a master’s degree in school administration from UNCW.
