Sunny 104.5 FM Moving To Stronger Signal In December

By Cece Nunn, posted Nov 25, 2015
A local radio station that plays a mix of popular tunes is getting a stronger signal in a deal expected to close next month.

Sunny 104.5 FM plans to move to 103.7 FM in December, a change the station has been advertising to listeners in recent days.

The station’s owner, Sunrise Broadcasting, is buying 103.7 from Sea-Comm Media for $1.85 million and then selling 104.5 to Bible Broadcasting Network for $300,000, according to a Radio Insight blog post. Sunrise Broadcasting general manager Brian Schimmel confirmed Radio Insight’s report on the price, but clarified that the $1.85 million price tag also includes property and a radio tower on Funston Road in Brunswick County and the 95.9 FM translator station that ESPN AM 630 has been simulcasting on since April last year.

Schimmel said the company hopes to complete the transaction by next week.

The 103.7 frequency has been home to a number of formats in recent years including as classic rock station The Bone, Port City Radio news and currently Big John FM, a variety hits format.

“The station is very successful with the signal that it has, but by moving to 103.7, we well effectively double our coverage area so more people can hear the station in areas where they might not be able to hear it now, and folks who hear the station now will be able who will be able to take it with them as they travel perhaps to Myrtle Beach or to Jacksonville,” Schimmel said.

The stations that also belong to Sunrise Broadcasting, which is owned by Capitol Broadcasting, include 99.9, Z107.5 and 98.7 FM.
