At Morvil Advertising + Design, It's All About The Image

The Morvil Advertising team: (l to r) Brian Fenderbosch, account executive, David Southerland, production manager, Jeff Morvil, president/creative director, Melanie Raynor, office manager and Maria Hamilton, creative director.

If you live in Wilmington you may not have heard of Morvil Advertising + Design Group, but you’ve likely seen the company’s work.

The logo (two fish swimming side-by-side) used by North Carolina Aquariums, including the Fort Fisher Aquarium, is just one prominent example of the firm’s graphic artistry.

Now the Wilmington company’s work can be seen splashed on the pages of “Symbol,” a book compiled of designs from the country’s top names in advertising. Six logos designed by Morvil Advertising were chosen for the book.

Jeff Morvil, president and creative director of Morvil Advertising, one of the passionate designers behind the company, said the recognition of his firm’s creations in “Symbol” is professionally satisfying.

“Our goal is to be unique and original. We try to communicate the right message in one breath of information, all with a single image,” he said. “Our goal is to be unique and original in visually expressing our clients’ attributes.”

Maria Hamilton, the firm’s creative director, added: “Six designs is a pretty high number of logos to be included, especially since we are so small. We are privileged and proud to represent our community in the ‘Symbol’ collection.”

British graphic designer Angus Hyland, a partner in Pentagram Design Ltd., compiles “Symbol,” the sixth book on graphic design that he’s edited. The book’s focus is on graphic designs stripped down to the most basic elements, but that communicate the client’s brand.

That’s the same impetus behind Morvil Advertising’s approach.

When companies hire Morvil, the design team takes a close look at the client’s marketing vision and works communicate that vision in potent imagery.

“Companies trust us to brand them,” Morvil said. “That’s a huge responsibility.”

Hamilton said all of the company’s work starts at the same point.

“We encourage every design to start with pencil and paper,” she said. “These evolve into numerous sketches that the whole team develops and produces into an image that is a universal idea everyone understands.”

Keep an eye out for more Morvil Advertising + Design logos, such as those for the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and LunaPops.

“We’re all around you,” Morvil said.
