Dr. Charles Foust is an accomplished education leader with more than 25 years of experience in public education. As the Superintendent of New Hanover County Schools, he is dedicated to offering students a first-class education in a safe and inviting setting and transforming the district into a world-class educational facility. Prior to his current role, he served as the superintendent of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, where he led the school system to double-digit growth in student achievement and was recognized for its academic growth and progress in closing the achievement gap.

Throughout his career, Dr. Foust has held various leadership positions in public education, including chief school performance officer, assistant superintendent, school support officer, principal, assistant principal, and curriculum facilitator. He began his career as a fourth-grade teacher in Guilford County, North Carolina.

Dr. Foust holds a bachelor’s in elementary education and a master’s in instructional technology from North Carolina A&T State University, a master’s in school administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a doctorate in professional leadership from the University of Houston. Dr. Foust is married with two daughters.
