A newly renovated hotel property in Carolina Beach has opened its doors to guests, according to an announcement this week.

The Oceaneer Hotel, 1621 S. Lake Park Blvd., has 26 rooms that, as part of a sustainability goal, feature "eco-friendly touches like a Rocco fridge, which is renowned for longevity and low-energy consumption, as well as complimentary Tayst coffee, an ethically sourced coffee that is packaged in biodegradable pods," according to a news release.

The boutique hotel's renovation preserved the property's "original structure and eco-friendly comforts and amenities," the release stated.

The renovation, which took two years, was completed June 27. Developed and owned by an LLC that is run by Sailfish Real Estate Capital and professionally managed by Access Hotels & Resorts, The Oceaneer Hotel occupies the building formerly known as The Oceaneer Motel, which opened in 1971. The current owners bought the property in 2022 for $5 million.

Rob McCord, managing partner of Sailfish Real Estate Capital, LLC, stated in the release, “We have succeeded in achieving our goal of providing a boutique beach hotel that ‘loves the beach back’ while also providing remarkably comfortable and intriguing amenities."

He said the owners chose not to tear down the aging building.

“Instead, we carefully used native plants and preservation techniques, restored one of the largest swimming pools on the island and brought vibrant, contemporary design touches to this nautically-themed boutique hotel," McCord said.

For family travelers, The Oceaneer Hotel offers two suites that accommodate up to six guests, according to the release.

"Other on-site amenities include an expansive pool, a well-equipped fitness center, new beach-cruiser bikes, extra gardens and seating areas, and an on-site market stocked with locally made provisions," the release stated.

The hotel also offers beach cruiser bikes for guests to borrow to explore the area.
