18th Annual Pleasure Island Chowder Cook-Off Set For April 12

Visitors to Carolina Beach can have a tasty day sampling and voting for their favorite seafood chowder at Carolina Beach Lake Park. The family-friendly event includes music and fun for all ages, according to a press release from Connie Nelson, spokeswoman for the Wilmington and Beaches Convention and
Visitors Bureau.

Chefs compete with their best seafood chowder recipes between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Contestants will offer chowder for an admission charge of $6 for adults. Admission is free for children 12 and under.

Carolina Beach restaurants competing are: Gibby’s Dock & Dine, Havana’s Fresh Island Restaurant, Pop’s Diner and Nikki’s Gourmet Sushi Bar. Wilmington competitors are: Hilton Wilmington Riverside and Ogden Tap Room. The Grille in Shallotte is returning, joined by two first-timers: Jebby’s On 17 in Hampstead and Mermaids Island Grill in Holden Beach.
