A new psychiatry office opened in Wilmington earlier this month.
Cape Fear Psychiatry, led by Daniel Tan, opened in the coworking space Common Desk at 226 N. Front St. on March 3.
Cape Fear Psychiatry is part of the Top Tier Psychiatry national network, founded by Tan, a board-certified psychiatrist who serves as the company’s chief operations officer and lives in Greensboro.
“When people move around to different states, it can be hard to find care,” Tan said. The multi-state practice approach is designed to bridge gaps patients may experience when relocating.
The Wilmington clinic offers in-person and telehealth appointments as well as psychiatric evaluations, medication management and treatment for PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, depression and anxiety, according to a news release. The office is currently accepting patients.
“There’s a growing need in our region, and not enough providers to meet it,” Tan said in the release. “Long wait times can significantly affect someone’s recovery. The clinic is designed to reduce those delays.”
Top Tier Psychiatry currently operates in multiple states, including Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Utah and North Carolina. The network has 18 outpatient clinics, according to the company.
According to its website, “Each clinic is locally embedded, staffed by providers who live and practice in the communities they serve.”
Tan said the company and Wilmington-based clinic are on a hiring spree; however, the credentialing process, which can take 90 to 120 days, means providers are in the pipeline.
According to the press release, the clinic will collaborate with local primary care physicians, schools and community organizations to streamline referrals, while self-referrals are also accepted.
Although Cape Fear Psychiatry is located downtown, the clinic accepts patients throughout the region, with an emphasis on rural areas.
"Access to timely, evidence-based care shouldn't depend on where someone lives," Tan said in the press release. "This clinic is part of a long-term commitment to community mental health in Southeastern North Carolina."
Cape Fear Psychiatry accepts adults, teens and children for care and, according to its website, accepts most health insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.
