Dosher Memorial Hospital’s new health care facility near St. James Plantation is almost complete.
When it opens, the medical complex will occupy a little more than half of the building’s 26,000 square feet, Dosher spokesman James Goss said. The remaining space – located on the facility’s second floor – will be developed later in response to future demand.
The price tag for Dosher’s new complex is about $7.9 million. Construction – $6 million of that cost – was financed through a partnership between St. James Plantation and Summit Healthcare Group, a private developer, Goss said Monday. It was designed for Dosher, which has since put nearly $2 million into upfitting the facility for the specific services offered, he added.
Dosher will lease the complex from the partnership.
Features and services of the new center, according to a news release, include:
- A family medicine practice staffed by board-certified family medicine physicians Kristos Vaughan and Leigh Vaughan, who are relocating from Dosher Medical-Long Beach Road
- Cardiac rehabilitation, which is relocating from the hospital and will nearly double in size
- Satellite physical therapy and occupational therapy services
- X-ray services
- An indoor walking track for the use of cardiac rehab and physical therapy patients who have such exercise prescribed by their physicians
- A cardiology physician practice
- An office for rotating physicians in other specialties
Goss said that the idea of developing a medical center near St. James was in the discussion stage for years and in the planning stage for three years.
Construction began last fall.
An open house had been scheduled for Aug. 26 for the new facility, but hospital officials said Aug. 2 that because of construction issues, that event has been cancelled. A new date has not yet been announced.
