Chops No. 3 Ready

Look for the opening any day now – possibly this week – of the new Chops Deli location near Wrightsville Beach.

Chops co-owner Chris Graham would not say exactly when the 60-seat store would debut, but he indicated that when it does, patrons would see more than Chops’ popular sandwiches.

Fried chicken, hot steak sandwiches, signature fries and a market area for buying bulk salads, cheeses and deli meats are part of the plan, Graham said. He and business partner Brad Corpening also have breakfast, plated evening meals and patio seating in mind for later.

Rather than replicating the other Chops locations’ deli counter service, this store will offer table service, Graham said. In keeping with Chops’ promotion of area artists, painters’ depictions – available for sale - decorate tabletops, Graham said. As one goes out, it will be replaced by another work, he said.

The 7037 Wrightsville Ave. spot, where Gloria’s Italian restaurant closed last fall, is the third Chops Deli. Graham and Corpening say they have plans to expand the four-year-old concept outside the Wilmington area.

Graham and Corpening put the first Chops Deli, with 68 seats, downtown at 130 N. Front St. A year later, the men launched the second store with 33 seats at 5120-108 S. College Road, near Lowe’s and Walmart.
