Corning Credit Union To Open Porters Neck Branch

By Vicky Janowski, posted Sep 29, 2015
Corning Credit Union soon will open its fourth branch in the Wilmington market after recently buying a location in Porters Neck.

Corning Credit Union, which has about 15,000 members in the area, recently purchased the former Yadkin Bank branch at 7961 Market St. The sale was for $1.9 million, according to county deeds records filed this month and company officials. The new credit union location is expected to open early next year.

“It has always been our long-term strategy to have a presence in the Porters Neck area,” Reagan Mosher, North Carolina regional manager for the credit union, said in a statement.  “The branch’s size, location, and availability made it a perfect fit for us.”

The Porters Neck branch is about 4,000 square feet and will include an ATM and drive-thru. The building was offered for sale this year, according to a news release.

Yadkin Bank closed its Porters Neck branch in July, said Lori Meyer, spokeswoman for Yadkin Bank, adding that the closure was part of a strategic review of the bank's branch network. She said Yadkin Bank still has two branches in Wilmington.

Corning Credit Union is working through the new location’s staffing plans, which will be finalized as the opening date gets closer, credit union spokeswoman Stephanie Carl said.

New York-based Corning Credit Union has other Wilmington locations on Racine Drive and 17th Street Extension. It opened a 3,000-square-foot branch in Leland earlier this year in response to growing member numbers in northern Brunswick County.
