Poplin Named Sales Director At WECT

Bill Poplin
Bill Poplin has been named director of sales of Wilmington-based TV station WECT, according to a news release.

Originally from Rocky Mount, Poplin graduated from Barton College and has been serving as director of sales for WSFA, Gray Local Media’s NBC affiliate in Montgomery, Alabama, since 2019.

“We are excited to have Bill back in North Carolina to help lead our revenue efforts here at WECT. He has a proven track record with broadcast and digital media and will continue to build on the success our clients have come to expect” said Mark Mendenhall, WECT’s vice president and general manager, in the release.

Throughout his career, Poplin has held leadership positions with several broadcast and cable operations throughout the Southeast, including general manager at WPGX in Panama City, Florida, and sales manager at WCTI-TV and Suddenlink Media in Greenville, North Carolina, the release stated.

Poplin stated in the release, “I am excited to be moving back to the great state of North Carolina and joining the elite team at WECT and Gray Digital Media. WECT has a wonderful history dedicated to serving their community and the Cape Fear Region."
